Finding and exporting your Confluence data

Confluence Cloud exposes app storage through the site administration console. Use MB for the size and a site backup, rather than a rendered space export, when preserving the broadest content set.

What it holds

Confluence stores knowledge-base pages, comments, uploaded files and earlier attachment versions. Spaces can also contain whiteboards, calendars and structured databases, whose export coverage differs.

Where Confluence shows the size

  1. As a Confluence admin, open admin.atlassian.com and select the organization and site; centralized user management places sites under Apps.
  2. Open Site settings > Storage and convert Confluence usage to MB. The counter updates every four hours.
  3. On Standard, Premium or Enterprise, open Confluence Administration > Settings > Space Reports and download the CSV for Storage used (MB), Content Count and attachment totals.

Plan and admin role. Confluence administrator access is required for site storage and backups. Space Reports is unavailable on Free.

Exporting the full history

  1. Open the gear menu, then Settings > Data management > Backup manager.
  2. Enable Backup attachments and select Create backup for cloud. Save any previous backup first: a new backup replaces the stored one.
  3. Download the completed backup within 14 days.
  4. For an individual space, use More actions beside its name > Space settings > General > Export space, then choose XML, HTML, CSV or PDF.

The documented site backup ceiling is 30 GB of site data plus 800 GB of attachments. Selected attachments can include archived and trashed material.

Database entries appear in the backup hierarchy without their actual data; export that data separately. User/group settings are incomplete and soft-deleted spaces are excluded.

Space exports depend on visibility, except site-admin XML and CSV exports. PDF excludes comments and space blog posts; HTML omits page comments; space exports omit Team Calendars.

Archiving pages does not reduce billed storage, and older attachment versions still count.

You don't need to run an export to talk to us, and there's no need to clean it first — removing personal data is part of our work.
