Finding and exporting your Discord data

Discord has no total message count for a server and no official way for an owner to export a server's full history. Large Community servers get Server Insights with around four months of activity. Give an estimate in messages.

What it holds

Discord servers hold channel conversations, discussion threads and shared media, while direct messages belong to individual accounts. Server membership, permissions and deleted messages affect which history an account can still access.

Where Discord shows the size

  1. Check whether the server is a Community server with more than 500 members; only those get Server Insights.
  2. Open Server Insights with an account that has the View Server Insights permission and look at weekly active members and the busiest channels.
  3. Without Insights, ask the most active staff accounts to request their data packages and count the messages inside. Treat the result as a minimum.

Plan and admin role. Server Insights needs a Community server above 500 members and the View Server Insights permission. Any verified account can request its own data package.

Exporting the full history

  1. Each person goes to User Settings, Data & Privacy, and requests their data.
  2. Discord emails a download link, which can take up to 30 days. The ZIP holds JSON files grouped by channel and conversation.

A package only contains messages that person sent, in servers they are still in or left recently, and never deleted messages.

Third-party bots and export tools aren't made by Discord. Check Discord's terms before using one.
