Finding and exporting your Google Meet data

What it holds

Meet recordings preserve the active speaker and presented material. Related chat logs and attendance files may also be retained alongside the meeting’s Drive content.

Where Google Meet shows the size

1. In Vault, open a matter and search Drive and Meet across all accounts for recordings, narrowing by owner, title, meeting ID or recording start time.
2. If Vault is unavailable, ask organizers to inspect their Google Meet folders and Legacy Meet Recordings for material from before July 2026.
3. Total recording durations or estimate using measured hours per GB. Admin console > Reporting > Audit and investigation > Meet log events provides activity durations, but these include unrecorded meetings and participant time.

Plan and admin role. Vault requires a qualifying edition or a separate license and appropriate access. Meet logs require Audit & Investigation privileges. Recording is available on Business Standard/Plus, Enterprise Standard/Plus, Education Plus, Essentials and Enterprise Essentials/Plus.

Exporting the full history

1. Export the cross-account recording search from Vault and collect its compressed Drive packages and XML metadata. Each package can be up to 10 GB.
2. Download Vault results before their 15-day expiry.
3. Alternatively, a super admin can use Admin console > Data > Data import & export > Data export to export all users, including Drive files.

The organization and recording user both need sufficient Drive capacity; an individual recording stops at eight hours.

With continuous meeting chat disabled, chat logs use SBV; attendance information uses Sheets.

Data Export requires a super admin with 2-Step Verification. Allow roughly 72 hours, potentially up to 14 days.

Deleted files are absent from Data Export unless preserved by Vault.

You don't need to run an export to talk to us, and there's no need to clean it first — removing personal data is part of our work.
