Finding and exporting your Instagram data
Instagram has no account-storage total. A downloaded export is a practical size measurement, provided the date range, information types and media quality are recorded.

What it holds
Instagram retains account activity, posts and media associated with the profile. Export coverage varies by the categories selected and may omit deleted material or particular logs.
Where Instagram shows the size
- Sign in to the business profile and open More > Settings > Meta Account, then Your information and permissions > Export your information.
- Create an export for the intended profile and device destination.
- After downloading all parts, total their sizes and retain the selected media-quality and date-range settings.
Plan and admin role. The account holder must authenticate to the Instagram account; exports are password protected. Access to a business-management interface alone should not be assumed sufficient.
Exporting the full history
- Choose Create export, select the profile and export to your device.
- Choose the required information, the entire date range and high media quality. Select JSON for machine processing or HTML for browsing, then start the export.
- Retrieve the files from Available downloads when notified by email.
Preparation can take up to 30 days; completed downloads remain available for four days.
HTML exports include a browsable index; JSON is easier to process programmatically. Media quality materially affects archive size.
Default available-information selections omit data logs; select specific categories to include them. Security-retained deleted information may still be absent from the export.
You don't need to run an export to talk to us, and there's no need to clean it first — removing personal data is part of our work.
