Finding and exporting your Mixpanel data
Mixpanel usage figures count incoming events, not stored bytes. Raw-export files or warehouse destinations provide a direct size measurement for retained event history.

What it holds
Mixpanel holds product events and their associated properties. Historical event availability follows project retention, so billing usage can exceed the history still exportable.
Where Mixpanel shows the size
- Open Organization Settings > Plan Details & Billing to inspect current-period usage.
- Use Data Usage for earlier periods and keep a clear date range when combining counts.
- Measure raw JSONL or pipeline output for a byte total rather than deriving bytes from an event count.
Plan and admin role. Organization-level admin access is needed for billing usage. Raw exports authenticate with a service account or project secret; Data Pipelines is a paid Growth/Enterprise add-on.
Exporting the full history
- Call the Raw Event Export API per project using from_date and to_date, with the correct regional host, including data-eu or data-in where applicable.
- Save responses as JSONL in manageable date slices, such as months, then total their sizes.
- Alternatively configure Data Pipelines to S3, Google Cloud Storage, Azure Blob Storage or a supported warehouse. Use the API for history beyond the pipeline backfill window.
Raw export limits are 60 queries per hour, three per second and 100 concurrent queries.
Default retention changed to two years from September 1, 2025; longer retention requires agreement with the account team. Deleted or expired events are not recoverable through export.
Data Pipelines backfills start no more than six months earlier. Usage is based on ingestion time, so backdated imports inflate the receiving month rather than their historical event month.
You don't need to run an export to talk to us, and there's no need to clean it first — removing personal data is part of our work.
