Finding and exporting your Twilio data

Use recording-storage minutes for volume and the Recordings API for media retrieval. Use recorded audio duration rather than total call activity when measuring the archive.

What it holds

Recording resources retain call audio and metadata until removed, with separate transcription records when enabled. Usage records expose storage minutes, while short-lived Voice Insights activity is not a complete historical archive.

Where Twilio shows the size

  1. Open Call Recordings in the Console, or Recording Logs in the legacy interface.
  2. Inspect call-recording and recording-storage usage for stored counts and minutes; divide stored minutes by 60 for hours.
  3. For all-time totals use the Usage Records API, not Monitor > Insights > Voice, whose call view covers only seven days or 30 with Advanced Features.

Plan and admin role. Requires account Console access or API credentials. Enable Voice Insights Advanced Features under Monitor > Insights > Voice > Settings for the 30-day view.

Exporting the full history

  1. List recording resources through the Recordings API, filtering creation dates as needed.
  2. Follow pagination with at most 1,000 results per page.
  3. Download authenticated media URLs as 128-kbps WAV or 32-kbps MP3; collect enabled transcriptions separately.

Audio remains until deletion and is billed per stored minute each month.

Deleted recording metadata remains available for 40 days; Voice Insights data lasts only 30 days.

A comprehensive extraction requires an API workflow rather than a Console bulk download. Transcription requires prior enablement and separate billing.

You don't need to run an export to talk to us, and there's no need to clean it first — removing personal data is part of our work.
