Selling an accounting firm's data

Updated October 2026

AI developers want to understand how finance work actually gets done: closing the books, reconciling accounts, preparing audits, answering client questions. Accounting and audit firms hold years of exactly that, much of it in their own internal records.

What has value

  • Internal communication: how teams plan, review and resolve issues
  • Workflow and practice-management records: deadlines, checklists, review steps
  • Methodologies, templates and internal guidance owned by the firm
  • Ticketing or help-desk history for client questions, with client details removed
  • Training material and recorded walkthroughs

What stays out

Client financial statements, ledgers and tax records, unless clients have expressly agreed, plus personal data, HR records and anything under professional confidentiality you cannot clear.

What makes a strong archive

25 or more employees, several years of records, chat or email plus a workflow or practice-management system, and internal communication mainly in English.

Does it cost anything to find out?
