What company data do AI companies buy?
Updated October 2026
AI labs have already trained on most of the public internet. What they lack is how real companies actually work. That is why they now license internal business records.
Records in demand
- Chat: Slack, Microsoft Teams
- Email: Gmail, Outlook
- Customers: HubSpot, Salesforce, support tickets
- Projects and engineering: Jira, Linear, GitHub, GitLab
- Documents: Google Drive, SharePoint, Notion
- Design and technical files: Figma, CAD drawings, project records
- Finance: accounting and transaction data
What buyers look for
- Established companies, typically 25 to 50 or more employees at peak
- At least three years of records
- Several tools covering the same period
- Internal communication mainly in English
- A clear owner who can approve the license
What is excluded
- HR, payroll and health records
- Private direct messages
- Client-owned or legally privileged material
- Personal details such as names, emails and phone numbers, which are removed or replaced before any transfer
FAQ
Do you only buy from tech companies?
No. Construction, legal, accounting, finance, engineering, logistics, real estate and game studios all qualify.
Is a codebase on its own enough?
Often yes. Larger codebases with long history and linked tickets can be licensed on their own.
What if we only use some of these tools?
Many companies qualify with chat, email and one or two other systems. More connected tools usually means a higher valuation.
