Selling a construction company's data

Construction is one of the industries AI developers know least about. Years of project records, drawings and site documentation show how real projects are planned, priced, changed and delivered. That history can now be licensed for AI training.
What has value
- Project records: RFIs, submittals, change orders, meeting minutes and daily reports
- Drawings and models: 2D plans, CAD and BIM files, revisions and markups
- Bids and estimates: takeoffs, pricing, bid/no-bid decisions
- Schedules and programmes, including how they changed over time
- Site photos and video from completed projects
- The communication around all of it: email, Teams or Slack, and project-management tools such as Procore, Aconex or Autodesk
Why it matters to AI
AI agents are being built to read project documents, prepare bids and check work against drawings. To do that they need real construction language, real plans and real decisions, including the mistakes and the fixes. Finished projects with long, connected histories are the most useful.
What makes a strong archive
- 50 or more employees at peak
- Several years of completed projects
- Documents and the conversations about them, covering the same period
- Internal communication mainly in English
What is excluded
Client-owned material that your contracts do not let you share, personal details of employees and subcontractors, HR records, and anything under a confidentiality restriction you cannot clear. Data held in a third-party platform also has to be exportable under that platform's terms.
FAQ
Do we need permission from our clients?
For material your clients own or that your contracts restrict, yes. Your own operational records, such as internal communication, estimates and process documents, are usually yours to license. We review this with you before anything moves.
Can a construction company that has closed still sell its records?
Yes, if the records still exist and the owner, liquidator or administrator can sign.
Are site photos really worth anything?
Photos and video tied to real projects, dates and documents are useful for training AI to understand site conditions and progress. Unlinked images are worth much less.
